Welcome to Gumdrop
Editions, the home of Dr Gail Edwards of 'Teddy Bear Club International' and 'Teddy Bear Times' Magazines.
About Us
Dr Gail Edwards of Teddy Bear Club International and Teddy Bear Times Magazines, has been a world
renowned teddy bear restorer for more than 25 years. She runs one of the original and oldest Teddy Bear Hospitals
in Cornwall, and has patients continuously arriving from all points of the globe.
Gail has had a lifelong passion for teddies and has built up an expert knowledge over
the years. She has given numerous talks and held valuation sessions to raise money for her favourite local charities; previous
charities have included the Childrens' Hospice South West 'Precious Lives' Appeal, Broomfields Horse Sanctuary
and raising funds to care for abandoned animals, and prostate and breast cancer charities.
Gail has a rare sensitivity when dealing with delicate and care worn teddies and their equally
fragile owners! When it comes to restoration work, nothing is done unless it is completely necessary, and the owners'
wishes are always paramount. She
is always careful to retain the patients' personality and never over-restore. An old bear deserves respect and has
earned its battle wounds. We believe that if you want a new bear then you should buy a new bear!
The Cornwall Teddy Bear Hospital is currently
based in St Just, Penzance, Cornwall and patients may be dropped off and collected locally by prior arrangement
only, however we welcome postal patients. The Doctor works in the off-premises operating theatre tending to her
patients and weaving her magic on over-loved teds and their cuddly friends. Please note, bears are repaired at a private address and we cannot accept personal callers.
As with the National Health Service there is a waiting list for operations and all patients MUST be booked in before arrival. We are
always happy to provide identifications and valuations on any old bears and provide a free
service for those who care to write or e-mail (please enclose clear photographs; unfortunately we are unable to return pictures). We reserve the right to reproduce any letters in future magazine articles, however no personal details
or addresses will be printed. Please do be patient
as we receive a considerable amount of enquiries and it can take a while for us to get through our post bag. A vast selection of antique and collectable orphan teddies are always available from the
Gumdrop Editions website, including the Gumdrop Editions range of hand stitched one-of-a-kind artist bears and other exclusive
lines. There are bears and their friends to suit all budgets.
Other
teddy related items, teddy bear jumpers, dolls, dolls houses and accessories, die-cast toy cars, train sets, sci-fi collectables
and further vintage toys may also be available via the website. (Please email us if you have any particular
wants, and we will do our best to help locate them).
Please
take the time to view our website where antique and vintage bears including Steiff, Schuco, Bing, Farnell, Chad Valley, Merrythought,
Chiltern, Deans, Wendy Boston, Invicta, Erris, Tara Toys, Ideal, Verna, Joy Toys, Else Sturn, etc are all looking for
loving new homes.
Please go to the hospital pages to view 'before and after' pictures, testimonials, charges and booking information.
